These settings are only for more technically advanced users who have a sufficient knowledge about wireless LAN. These parameters should not be changed unless you know what effect the change will have on the router.

  • Advanced Options.
    • AP Insulation – If the wireless router will be used in a public place, and you do not want any wireless clients to be able to share files or printers, including insulation AP. In this case, all the wireless clients can only access the Internet. An example of a situation in which you might want to take advantage of this feature is a stay in a crowded public place, such as a cafe or hotel. By default, this feature is disabled.
    • Wireless Roaming – it’s not a standalone mode, and an additional opportunity to the regime of the access point (AP). Suppose if in a network environment, there are several access points, wireless stations (clients), moving between their coverage areas can be switched from one point to another. This process is called roaming. By moving from place to place, the wireless station needs to select the most suitable access point in terms of signal strength, network load and other factors.
    • Short GI – a means of reducing errors in the interaction of radio devices – an empty gap between the transmitted hexadecimal characters (0,1, … E, F). Standard Long GI has a duration of 800ns. It is believed that during this time the signal reaches the receiver completely with all the delays and reflections. After this interval, the next character is transmitted. Short GI takes 400ns. Using Short GI increases the overall performance of a wireless network by approximately 11%, but sometimes leads to an increase in the transmit / receive errors.
    • WMM – Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) protocol based on the IEEE 802.11e standard, to provide basic QoS features to IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. WMM can be used to set the priority over “normal data” for voice traffic (Voice over IP), video traffic as well as traffic from the non-guaranteed delivery devices without the QoS mechanism. This mechanism allows the network packets of multimedia applications priority over normal network data packets, allowing multimedia applications to run more stable and with fewer errors.
    • Protection – Enable or disable wireless security.
    • Transmission Power (RF Output Power) – Maximum range of Wi-Fi and network data transfer rate is determined by the capacity of the router transmitter, which will be transmitted signal. The greater the power of the transmitter, the greater the distance you can establish a connection. The transmit power is usually measured in units of milliwatts or dBm. Therefore, if you want to ensure maximum communication range, the use of high power transmitter and antenna with higher gain.
